Ricky Skaggs' Bourgeois Brazilian D-150
The bottom line: #651! Brazilian Rosewood, Adirondack Spruce, a great neck up and down, solid tone and lots of volume! This is the first guitar that Dana Bourgeois built for Ricky Skaggs back in 1996. We brought the guitar to the Bourgeois shop in Lewiston, Maine to let Dana have a look at it again after 25 years. He recalled that Bryan Sutton, who was already playing a Banjo Killer, introduced Dana and Ricky at the Point Thomas Bluegrass festival in 1996 and that he built a guitar for both Bryan and Ricky. We looked at Dana’s records and found #651 in a log book with Ricky’s name on it. Dana is pretty sure that this was Ricky’s personal road guitar from 1996 to 2002. We’ll include a copy of the log page with the guitar. As Dana noted when he picked it up for the first time in 25 years, it plays great, easy up and down the neck and has had new frets installed. The tone is even and balanced and this guitar is capable of playing loud and responding to energetic playing like you would expect from Ricky Skaggs’s show guitar. We carefully examined the guitar at the Bourgeois shop and made these notes on it. The pick guard is original and the wear on the top was earned honestly playing Bluegrass music. The guitar is road-worn but was well maintained so that it is solid and sounds great. There is a small repaired crack on the back. We presume that there has been a neck re-set and the bridge was thinned to a height to allow for a tall full saddle with lots of room to shave in the future. The original neck profile was thinned (see photos). That and the 1 3/4" nut makes the neck feel contemporary and easy to play. The guitar is gig ready with a Fishman VT system installed and comes with a hard shell case.Sold

2021 Taylor GT Urban Ash
Designed from the ground up for comfort, playability and rich tone, the GT Urban Ash debuts a new compact body shape with a big, resonant acoustic voice. The GT (Grand Theater) shares the basic footprint of the jumbo-sized Grand Orchestra shape, but its proportions have been scaled down (including a shallower body depth), creating a fun, inviting feel in a package that you can take virtually anywhere. The GT also features a uniquely proportioned neck with a scale length of 24-⅛”, a bit longer than the GS Mini and a bit shorter than the Grand Concert. The neck provides a slinky fretting feel thanks to reduced string tension. It comes together in the GT Urban Ash, built with solid back and sides of the responsibly sourced tonewood that gives the guitar its name. A solid spruce top helps charge the GT’s tonal response with projection that belies its small frame, powered by the new asymmetrical C-Class bracing design, which translates the tone-enhancing properties of V-Class bracing into a sonic engine that’s appropriate for this new body shape. Expect a warm, punchy midrange accentuated by crisp treble notes, with an impressive bass response that owes its surprising power to the new bracing scheme. A beautiful fretboard of responsibly sourced smoked eucalyptus delivers the feel of a rosewood fretboard with the tonal character of ebony, while a thin matte finish preserves the guitar’s resonance. A clean-cut appointment package includes Pinnacle inlays in Italian acrylic, a three-ring koa rosette and a dusky Urban Sienna stain on the ash back and sides. It ships in a super-durable yet lightweight AeroCase™.Sold

2020 Taylor 652ce Builder’s Edition 12-String
This gorgeous 12-String is the same model we stock that sells for $4199 new! It is in nearly perfect condition except for one ding in the top binding. Built with figured Big Leaf maple for the back and sides with a torrefied Sitka spruce top. V-Class bracing delivers a unique boost in the 12-string configuration, adding texture and tonal bloom as notes resonate with increased sustain and power, while the guitar takes on additional punch resulting from the reversed string orientation. Placing the fundamental string at the top of each pair adds warmth and body, and their new double-mounted string anchoring system provides cleaner intonation with each string crossing the saddle at the same point. Taylor’s special roasting process draws a more aged-in, sweetened response from the torrefied spruce top, and the 12-fret setup brings the bridge closer to the center of the lower bout for stronger midrange presence and a slinkier, more relaxed feel for your fretting hand. This 652ce is appointed to deliver a playing experience that matches its robust tone, with chamfered body and fretboard edges, a smooth Curve Wing bridge, and beveled armrest and cutaway providing a truly fluid, intimate connection between player and instrument. Like many of its Builder’s Edition counterparts, this 12-string is finished in an edgburst-hued Silent Satin sheen that reduces incidental noise for clean recordings, along with Scepter inlays in shell and mother-of-pearl for an artful, eye-catching visual character. It ships with ES2 electronics in a deluxe Taylor hardshell case.Sold
