Custom Painted, "The Caterpillar" Les Paul by Zach Johnsen of Baba Yaga
We are excited to present "The Caterpillar" Les Paul, custom painted by Zach Johnsen of Baba Yaga/Zenvironments. Zach is a local New Hampshire artist with a wonderful store on main-street here in Littleton. We love his whimsical, dreamlike artworks and asked him to paint this Les Paul tribute. The only prompt was, "make it psychedelic" and that got Zach's imagination jogging! He painted a Caterpillar from Alice and Wonderland blowing smoke all over the guitar. This Les Paul comes with a handsome leather padded carrying bag. This thing is not only visually stunning, we set it up to play great too!Sold

Fender Custom Shop 1957 Telecaster® Journeyman Relic®
Weighing in at a svelte 7 lbs, 8 oz, the Fender Custom Shop introduces the '57 Telecaster Journeyman Relic. An expertly crafted incarnation of the Telecaster from a particularly prized model year, it's loaded with looks, sound and vibe that authentically evoke the instrument in the second half of its debut decade. The two-piece select ash body produces sweet midrange and tight lows, and wears striking Journeyman Relic lacquer finishes in Aged White Blonde, Wide Fade Two-Color Sunburst and Aged Candy Tangerine. This special treatment imparts the look of a guitar that has changed hands or been handed down over the years, mostly played around the house and the occasional jam session or weekend gig. This generally well-cared-for look includes light finish checking, several "friendly" down-to-the-wood nicks and dings, some dulling of the hardware, and general moderate playing wear. The look of a very lucky find, in short. The one-piece quartersawn maple neck is sculpted with a '57-style Soft "V" profile for comfortable and period-correct full-hand feel, topped by a 9.5" radius maple fingerboard with 21 narrow tall (6105) frets and a bone nut. Dual Custom Shop hand-wound '58 Telecaster pickups with Fat '50s Tele wiring deliver clear, crisp highs with well-balanced midrange and low end. Other premium features include a single-ply parchment pickguard, three-way pickup switch, '55-'57 Telecaster® bridge with steel barrel saddles, vintage-style tuners, wing string tree, deluxe hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.Sold
1969 Fender Swinger Dakota Red
Here we have a unique and rare vintage 60s Fender model called the Swinger in its quintessential Dakota Red. A nod to the space age spirit of the sixties, this guitar has a bit of a modern rock n' roll attitude. A favorite model of well known artists such as Ben Kweller on his debut album and Tina Weymouth of the Talking Heads this is a compact guitar with style. The wiring on the inside is really tight so we weren't able to open it up for photos, but we have no reason to believe that this guitar is not all original except for the case. Comes with a Fender Hard shell case that is non-original but fits the guitar well. There is the usual pickguard shrinkage on the pickguard. The original finish has a great look, it has the usual checking and a few dings/dents here and there. Medium fret-wear, sounds great! The low e-string is a bit close to the edge of the fretboard, so you may choose to eventually bring it to your tech for adjustment for optimal playability. The nut width is slim with a 1 7/16" nut and the short scale makes this super easy to play. Overall a super cool collectors piece or ready to rock in your studio or on stage!Sold

Why are electric guitars great for beginners?
Electric guitars are perfect for beginners because electric guitars have smaller necks and lighter strings compared to acoustic guitars, making them easier to play. However, they do require amplification through guitar amps to produce a louder sound. For the actual technique of playing guitar Berklee is a great resource.
What is the history of electric guitars?
The Inception of Electric Guitars: A Brief History The invention of electric guitars dates back to the 1930s, when guitar players needed louder instruments to keep up with larger bands and eventually rock and roll. Electric guitars work on the principle of magnetism, where a magnetic pickup detects the vibration of the metal strings and converts it into an electric signal that is amplified through a guitar amplifier.
Iconic Electric Guitar Designs from the 1950s and 1960s The history of electric guitars took off in the 1950s with the introduction of iconic models from brands like Leo Fender and Gibson. The popular Fender Telecaster was one of the earliest electric guitar designs and featured a solid maple neck and two pickups. The Fender Stratocaster, introduced later, had a contoured body and three single coil pickups. The Gibson Les Paul, another classic design, featured humbucking pickups and a solid mahogany body and neck, making it a favorite for driving amplifiers into distortion in rock and roll and later, metal. These iconic designs, the Les Paul, Telecaster, and Stratocaster, remain popular to this day and are replicated by numerous brands with their own twists on headstock design, color options, and pickups.
You can learn more about guitar history here.
How Much Do Electric Guitars Cost?
The cost of electric guitars varies widely, ranging from a few hundred dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars for rare vintage models.
Why Choose a Small Independent Guitar Store?
Support local economies and family-owned businesses by choosing to buy from a small independent guitar store like Northern Lights Music. Unlike big chain stores like Guitar Center, Sweetwater, and Musicians Friend, which are owned by hedge funds and other investors, small independent stores offer a more personalized experience, individual attention, and lasting relationships.
How do I find my unique sound on the electric guitar?
Finding Your Sound and Choosing Your Tone Start by exploring the music of your favorite artists to find the right electric guitar for your style. Pay attention to the style of guitar they play and the pedals and amplifiers they use, as these are key to their signature sound.
What is the difference between Solidbody electric guitars and ones that are chambered or hollow?
Solidbody vs. Chambered Body Guitars Solid body guitars, such as the Stratocaster and Telecaster, are made from solid chunks of wood and have little acoustic tone. Les Pauls can also be solid, but sometimes, guitarists prefer chambered body guitars to reduce weight during long gigs or extended playing. Chambered body guitars have pockets of wood removed from inside the body, such as the Thin-line telecaster, which features a visible chambered body.
