Adirondack Spruce

Here's a gorgeous sounding Sunburst Adirondack Spruce and Bees Wing Mahogany small body guitar from legendary builder, Jim Merrill. This beauty weighs in at just 3 lbs 3.6 oz. and is resonant, big sounding, with great highs and rich bass like the very best of the vintage Martins. The 1 3/4" width nut and short scale and light weight make this guitar feel like a dream to play. It comes with its original hard shell case.

The bottom line: #651! Brazilian Rosewood, Adirondack Spruce, a great neck up and down, solid tone and lots of volume! This is the first guitar that Dana Bourgeois built for Ricky Skaggs back in 1996. We brought the guitar to the Bourgeois shop in Lewiston, Maine to let Dana have a look at it again after 25 years. He recalled that Bryan Sutton, who was already playing a Banjo Killer, introduced Dana and Ricky at the Point Thomas Bluegrass festival in 1996 and that he built a guitar for both Bryan and Ricky. We looked at Dana’s records and found #651 in a log book with Ricky’s name on it. Dana is pretty sure that this was Ricky’s personal road guitar from 1996 to 2002. We’ll include a copy of the log page with the guitar. As Dana noted when he picked it up for the first time in 25 years, it plays great, easy up and down the neck and has had new frets installed. The tone is even and balanced and this guitar is capable of playing loud and responding to energetic playing like you would expect from Ricky Skaggs’s show guitar. We carefully examined the guitar at the Bourgeois shop and made these notes on it. The pick guard is original and the wear on the top was earned honestly playing Bluegrass music. The guitar is road-worn but was well maintained so that it is solid and sounds great. There is a small repaired crack on the back. We presume that there has been a neck re-set and the bridge was thinned to a height to allow for a tall full saddle with lots of room to shave in the future. The original neck profile was thinned (see photos). That and the 1 3/4" nut makes the neck feel contemporary and easy to play. The guitar is gig ready with a Fishman VT system installed and comes with a hard shell case.

This used instrument is in excellent condition and comes with its original hard shell case. It plays and sounds great with a warm and woody tone. Gibson Montana J-45 75th Anniversary Acoustic Triburst. Celebrating 75 years of the J45 this round-shoulder dreadnought features Thermally Aged Adirondack Spruce and figured mahogany back and sides. The finish is hand-rubbed Triburst that is vintage toned. Mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard/ bridge and and gold plated tuners. This instrument also features ivoroid buttons, a bone nut and saddle as-well as LR Baggs Session pickup system. Excellent overall condition. Little to no fret-wear or pick/pinky cuticle marking on pick guard. Super light finish wear you might expect from a gently used instrument. No dings or dents of note. Beautiful playability, gorgeous details, striking wood grains.

This stately 2018 Bourgeois DS Custom will blow you away with its warmth and subtle tonal resonances but it will also dazzle you with its tastefully chosen Brazilian Rosewood appointments. Dana Bourgeois selects the most striking tone-woods for all of his builds, the Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce on this guitar is just beautiful in color and grain. The Sinker Mahogany back and sides exude a rich voice that has that classic musicality. This instrument features a 12 fret to the body construction which is extremely comfortable. The slotted head-stock adds an overall resonance to the neck along with a high-frequency boost that is scintillating on the ear. Bourgeois guitars are extremely comfortable to play, with a slim modern neck with the slightest of V just enough to fit in the crook of ones hands. This guitar was gently used, only the usual superficial finish wear you expect of a well loved instrument. No dings or dents of note and little to no wear on the pick-guard. There is a super tiny nick on the neck where someones nail may have caught when moving the thumb to the G chord position. Light to medium fret-wear on the Bluegrass melody frets. We are proud and privileged to present one of the true holy grails of the acoustic guitar world, the Santa Cruz 1934 D! The tone on this instrument is just beautiful thanks to its old growth Brazilian Rosewood and old Adirondack Spruce. It is set up perfectly and the neck features a traditional 1 11/16" width nut and 25.25" scale for an incredible feel. We are the original sellers of this one owner guitar and so we know that it has been carefully cared for. It is in mint condition though the frets show enough play that we should say that they are in 98%+ condition. The case is super-clean too as this guitar has never been "gigged". This is instrument is one of "the good ones", super-cool and inspiring to play!

Originally listed by Sound Pure in North Carolina for $7470, this top of the line Goodall features the finest figured Mahogany and Adirondack Spruce. This instrument exudes warmth and depth, both in tone and volume while maintaining a crisp clarity. The Mahogany has a rich, musical balance paired with the Adirondack it goes from 0-60 in .01 seconds. Amazingly responsive to both finger-style and aggressive flat picking this guitar can do it all. Tying it all together is a beautiful figured Maple binding on body and neck. The traditional vintage appointments on the rest of the guitar give it a classic, understated look even with the top shelf tone woods. Being a 12 fret guitar every note is within reach making. Combine that with the medium sized neck (not too slim not too fat) you have an extremely comfortable instrument to play. Comes with original hard shell case. This is number 2 in a series of five Brazilian Victorian Limited Edition Parlor that Bourgeois offered in 2019. It is one of the best sounding parlor guitars we have had in the shop. It's lightly played with minimal fret wear and is in super clean shape. We are the original sellers of this one owner instrument and know that it has been cared for properly. The tone from it's premium Brazilian Rosewood, Adirondack Spruce and animal protein glue is as good as it gets. The short scale along with a 1 3/4" width nut and 2 5/16" bridge string spacing feel just great too. We have listed the build sheet to this guitar so that you can see all of the features that make this guitar so special. It comes with it's original hard shell case.

This is one lightweight, easy playing, super-sweet sounding guitar! The H-13 is one of our favorite styles from Santa Cruz with a comfortable size, great fret access and a bridge placed right in the sweet spot of the top for warm tone. The custom features on this 1 3/4" width nut,13 fret beauty include a figured mahogany back, an Adirondack Spruce top, Herringbone top border, zipper back strip, tortoise body and fingerboard binding, a solid VJ style peghead, and custom finish. This guitar shows some light signs of play and wear but has no issues or damage. The frets are in about 80-85% shape and have lots of life left in them. The original plush-lined hard-shell case is included.

This beautiful large sound-hole OM delivers tone in spades! It features an Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce top and Indian Rosewood back and sides. It has a 1 3/4" nut with 2 5/16" bridge spacing. The slot-head OOO 12-Fret is one of our favorite guitars! 12-fret models let the bridge to be placed on the spot on the guitar top that yields the warmest and sweetest tones. This OOO1 has a 1 ¾” width nut and features an Adirondack Spruce top and Honduran Mahogany back and sides. It sports a comfortable modified V neck profile and a 25 ½” scale. The Pre-War scalloped X-brace and nitrocellulose lacquer finish enhance the tone of its premium tone woods. It comes with a hard shell case.

This is one of the rare, great ones! This cut-away, deep body, 12 fret variation with short scale length and 1 3/4" width nut sounds and plays as good it gets. This custom instrument features an incredible Tier 1, quartersawn, master grade, highly figured Brazilian Rosewood body and an Adirondack Spruce top with Adirondack bracing attached with hot hide glue. It features a soft V neck (more like Santa Cruz's OO models than the standard H sharp V), an Ivoroid bound pegged and zipper back-stripe. The look of this guitar is topped off with a Torch pegged inlay and 42 stye fingerboard inly. It is excellent to near mint condition and comes with its original hard shell case.
