Country Boy OMS Professional Series - We love 12 fret long scale OM’s! This Country Boy model features a Sitka Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides. SoldRicky Skaggs' Bourgeois Brazilian D-150
The bottom line: #651! Brazilian Rosewood, Adirondack Spruce, a great neck up and down, solid tone and lots of volume! This is the first guitar that Dana Bourgeois built for Ricky Skaggs back in 1996. We brought the guitar to the Bourgeois shop in Lewiston, Maine to let Dana have a look at it again after 25 years. He recalled that Bryan Sutton, who was already playing a Banjo Killer, introduced Dana and Ricky at the Point Thomas Bluegrass festival in 1996 and that he built a guitar for both Bryan and Ricky. We looked at Dana’s records and found #651 in a log book with Ricky’s name on it. Dana is pretty sure that this was Ricky’s personal road guitar from 1996 to 2002. We’ll include a copy of the log page with the guitar. As Dana noted when he picked it up for the first time in 25 years, it plays great, easy up and down the neck and has had new frets installed. The tone is even and balanced and this guitar is capable of playing loud and responding to energetic playing like you would expect from Ricky Skaggs’s show guitar. We carefully examined the guitar at the Bourgeois shop and made these notes on it. The pick guard is original and the wear on the top was earned honestly playing Bluegrass music. The guitar is road-worn but was well maintained so that it is solid and sounds great. There is a small repaired crack on the back. We presume that there has been a neck re-set and the bridge was thinned to a height to allow for a tall full saddle with lots of room to shave in the future. The original neck profile was thinned (see photos). That and the 1 3/4" nut makes the neck feel contemporary and easy to play. The guitar is gig ready with a Fishman VT system installed and comes with a hard shell case.

As the original sellers of this guitar, we handpicked the tone woods sets for this incredible guitar with Dana Bourgeois at his shop in Lewiston, Me. This stately 2018 Bourgeois DS Custom will blow you away with its warmth and subtle tonal resonances but it will also dazzle you with its tastefully chosen Brazilian Rosewood appointments. Dana Bourgeois selects the most striking tone-woods for all of his builds, the Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce on this guitar is just beautiful in color and grain. The Sinker Mahogany back and sides exude a rich voice that has that classic musicality. This instrument features a 12 fret to the body construction which is extremely comfortable. The slotted head-stock adds an overall resonance to the neck along with a high-frequency boost that is scintillating on the ear. Bourgeois guitars are extremely comfortable to play, with a slim modern neck with the slightest of V just enough to fit in the crook of ones hands. This guitar was gently used, only the usual superficial finish wear you expect of a well loved instrument. No dings or dents of note and little to no wear on the pick-guard. Materials: This gently pre-owned OM Vintage features premium East Indian Rosewood back and sides with a beautiful Adirondack Spruce top and Honduran Mahogany Neck. Ebony fretboard and bridge along with a stunning Ziricote headstock overlay. The neck has a comfortable 1 3/4" nut width. Sound: This instrument has gorgeous finger and flat picking tone. The Adirondack top has opened up beautifully since its construction in 2014. It has a warm, lush tone that is dynamic with many subtleties to explore. The Indian Rosewood balances the instrument across the frequency spectrum. Excellent bass response, clear highs and vibrant mid range. Special Bonus Items: This instrument features an LR Baggs Anthem pickup, which combines a microphone and piezo to create a beautiful pickup tone. A strap button was added to the lower bout side of the neck heel so this instrument is gig ready! Condition: Excellent action and playability. This may be the custom guitar of the year! We had a great time selecting all the features and tonewoods at for it with Dana and his crew at their shop. We started by picking and incredible Aged Tone Curly Maple for the back and then Dana found us a gorgeous looking and sounding Bear claw Figured Aged Tone Sitka for the top and said that he could do a nice pale burst on it. We added a Ziricote arm bevel with custom purfling for style and comfort. The neck is a special select piece of Aged Tone figured Maple that they were saving for that special project. All the Ziricote for the binding, fretboard and bridge is up to the same grade as the rest of the guitar. Gold Waverly tuners add just the right accent to the elegant look. This guitar sound as good as you’d expect and it plays like a dream with a short scale length, 1 23/32” width nut and 2.2” Bridge spacing. It comes with a hard shell case and a pickguard loose in the case.

Here is a video we made of our visit to the Bourgeois factory in Lewiston, Maine. We interviewed Dana Bourgeois about his guitar philosophy and juxtaposed those words with video of his small crew hand crafting these fine guitars. As you can see, it is like something from the old days, so much hand crafting and attention to the details. At each step in the guitar construction process skilled luthiers carefully complete their task. Whether it be carving, sanding, stringing and setup each stage requires experience and care. This is what makes these Bourgeois guitars so great.
While Bourgeois has broadened their global reach through their Eastman collaboration called the Touchstone series, all other series such as the Professional, Heirloom, Legacy, Agetone etc... are completely hand crafted in the USA at the Lewiston factory under the watchful eye of Dana Bourgeois.
