D'Angelico Excell EX-DC
Awesome player grade ex-dc killer funk, jazz, soul machine. Previous owner was a dedicated jazz guitarist in the NYC area and this was his main guitar for years. Forget the up-charge road worn or relic this is the real deal. Nice rich warm jazz box tone, in a comfortable compact format. Easy playing with many tonal combinations. There is medium fret-wear up and down the neck despite this it plays well and all the notes sounds nicely. The decorative caps are missing from two of the four knobs, the patina on the pickups are worn from palm friction. Nicks and dings here and there and a finish crack on the back of the head-stock (we looked at this closely and appears only to be in the black laminate on the back, not the wood). This instrument does not come with case or bag and is priced accordingly. We strung this with some nice flat wound D'Addario strings.Sold
2018 Eastman AR905CE-SB
Renowned internationally for their violins and arch-top instruments Eastman musical instruments combines top quality materials with fine craftsmanship to produce professional level guitars. This particular AR905CE-SB (SB signifying sunburst) is a joy to play. We set this up with nice D’Addario flat wound strings and once you get playing on this you just don’t want to stop. This guitar can do it all. The tone of this instrument is lush. A nice warm sound is produced with robust bottom end. I tried it through a princeton amp with a little reverb and vibrato, one word to describe it is beautiful. Being an arch top, it has excellent responsiveness and life with each note. One of my favorite things about this instrument is the the maple binding on every single part of the guitar. The body, the neck, the headstock, the soundholes, the pickguard, no place was left unbound in this gorgeous maple. The back and sides too are a beautiful figured maple with lots of visual effect. Premium hand carved spruce top brings it all together with that great velocity of sound. To top it all off is the premium black ebony tail piece, bridge and fingerboard. This instrument was owned by a professional musician in the NYC area who played it regularly. It has signs of use such as light finish wear and a few small dings and dents here and there as you might expect from a well loved and well played instrument. Light fretwear. What are the best guitars for beginners?
The best guitars for beginners have to be both affordable and high-quality, so that you don't have to struggle and can enjoy excellent tone. We recommend that all beginners start with Taylor guitars, particularly the Academy, GS-Mini or Baby guitars, as they are affordable, North American made and easily adjusted by a skilled guitar tech. Many of our customers have a limited budget, or want a guitar they don't have to worry about taking to the camp fire. In this case, we recommend Yamaha guitars as excellent entry level guitars. We have found that they stand out from the competing in terms of their build quality, playability and they are remarkably durable. In summary, the best guitars for beginners are Taylor and Yamaha guitars. However we always recommend that beginners purchase the best quality guitar they can afford, that way they can enjoy the experience and have an instrument that they can grow into. And the worst guitars for beginners tend to be old ones, with rusty strings and high action (where the guitar strings are hard to press down). In that case, we often recommend getting a fresh new Yamaha or Taylor to get started. Once you move from beginner to intermediate, we have an entire world of professional, top shelf guitars to enjoy from Bourgeois, Collings, Santa Cruz, Lowden, Huss & Dalton, Preston Thompson and more!
