Every detail of this OM Brazilian was meticulously spec'd by Ben here at Northern Lights taking inspiration from a 1930s style OM-28 but with a modern twist adding an understaed bear-claw Adirondack top and sunburst. The Brazilian Rosewood back and sides is the perfect match for the Adirondack top achieving that classic tone that we all love. Other choice vintage appointments include a cut-through saddle, vintage zig zag back strip and herringbone purfling/ivoroid binding. Fingerstyle perfection in Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce and Mahogany! In the late 1920s, 12 fret, slotted head guitars began their historic transformation into the still-dominant designs of the 1930s. Left behind, however, were larger upper bouts, longer air cavities and optimal bridge placement at the center of the widest part of the lower bout. The OMS combines a large upper bout,a long air cavity and optimal bridge placement at the center of the widest part of the lower bout with a slotted headstock and a 25.5” scale neck to create a design coveted by fingerstylists – and not a few flatpickers.

Here we have a spectacular example of the Bourgeois Generation OM. This guitar is as excellent as used gets, so good that we would describe this one as practically new old stock. It doesn't appear that the single owner of this 2022 guitar played it much at all. So what is so great about these Generation models? Well first of all, they are the only Bourgeois that comes standard with an LR Baggs pickup system, they also feature beautiful torrified Sitka tops lending a vintage/mature tone and to top it all off, they are simply appointed to deliver maximum bang for the buck. These guitars are top quality despite being at the entry level for Bourgeois guitars and are rather uncommon, considering that most of the Bourgeois guitars tend to be more ornate (and more expensive). So basically, this guitar has all the tone and nuance that one would expect from a fine made in USA Bourgeois but at a wildly attractive price point and with the added practicality of a pickup installed. Talk about an awesome gig worthy Bourgeois, no frills just a lean mean picking machine. These Generation models pack many practical features into an instrument with a tremendously warm and rich tone. One of the big additions to this guitar that you don't find on many Bourgeois guitars is the LR Baggs pickup system making it an absolutely practical gigger. Sporting a gorgeous torrified Sitka Spruce top, this instrument has a crisp and mature tone often associated with the finest vintage instruments. To round it out, the Mahogany back and sides give a nice, dry and round voice. To tie it all together, the body is bound in an elegant faux tortoise binding, to match the pickguard. This is an awesome guitar! Comes with the original deluxe Bourgeois hard-shell case. This instrument is in excellent condition with only light fret-wear at the typical under the B string first few frets location. There is light pickguard wear where one would expect on a gently used guitar. Simply put, this guitar is great bang for the buck and has tone in spades.

This is the quintessential Dana Bourgeois Banjo Killer. Banjo Killer was coined by Bluegrass guitar legend Bryan Sutton to describe the loud and cutting tone of the Banjo Killer. In 2006 they did a run of 30 Banjo Killers signed by Bryan Sutton. This guitar features premium wood throughout. Brazilian RW bridge, fingerboard and bridge plate (for that extra cutting sound). Beautiful Bearclaw Sitka top and figured Mahogany back and sides. Although you might think of this as a premium flat picking instrument, this guitar sounds absolutely beautiful fingerpicked. Comes with the original hard shell case and has an ebony strap button installed at the heel. Why I love this guitar: The tone is crisp, warm, mature and you don't have to put much force into it to get it really ringing. Many guitars have a fundamental resonance of a-flat but this one sings at a low G making the G chords and scales absolutely boom and sing. Light fretwear under the B string at the first five frets, and light pickwear on the pickguard. There are signs of slight fingernail wear in the fingerboard where one frets the G and D chords. Along with the usual signs of gentle handling of a well loved guitar. No visible dings or dents of note. This guitar is awesome!

Here is a video we made of our visit to the Bourgeois factory in Lewiston, Maine. We interviewed Dana Bourgeois about his guitar philosophy and juxtaposed those words with video of his small crew hand crafting these fine guitars. As you can see, it is like something from the old days, so much hand crafting and attention to the details. At each step in the guitar construction process skilled luthiers carefully complete their task. Whether it be carving, sanding, stringing and setup each stage requires experience and care. This is what makes these Bourgeois guitars so great.
While Bourgeois has broadened their global reach through their Eastman collaboration called the Touchstone series, all other series such as the Professional, Heirloom, Legacy, Agetone etc... are completely hand crafted in the USA at the Lewiston factory under the watchful eye of Dana Bourgeois.
